ANNA!
ANNA! is a New York–based multidisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and writer working across painting, graffiti, collage, installation, public art, clothing, television, and moving image.
Her practice explores how memory, identity, architecture, displacement, visibility, and transformation become embedded in the urban landscape. Moving between streets, studios, galleries, abandoned spaces, and film, she creates work that is inseparable from the environments in which it appears.
ANNA! in New York
Anna Barratt, known professionally as ANNA!, is a New York City artist, graffiti writer, filmmaker and writer. Her work connects studio practice with the street, using painting, collage, public art, moving image and personal narrative to examine memory, architecture, identity and transformation.
Artist statement
New York functions as subject, material, archive, and collaborator. Fire escapes, tunnels, bridges, storefronts, advertisements, and fragments of popular culture recur across the work as structures through which personal and collective memory can be rebuilt.
ANNA! earned a B.S. in Communication Design from Pratt Institute in 2015. Her work has been presented through solo and group exhibitions, public projects, residencies, film screenings, print, television, and independent collaborations. She created, hosted, and produced the thirteen-episode public-access series ANNA TELEVISION for Manhattan Neighborhood Network.
