ANNA! GRAFFITI · NYC

Brandalism

ANNA! tags, rollers and bus ad takeovers across New York. Rooftops, trucks, tunnels, the Bowery wall. The city rents its walls by the week. These are the weeks she took back.

STATEMENT

Graffiti is not vandalism. It is anarchistic advertisement.

Most advertising is consumed without consent. You never agreed to the bus shelter. You never agreed to the billboard. It is put in front of your eyes and you take it in. This work is the response.

An ad is priced by the square foot. The price is the people who pass and look. The same people pass my name. The same people look. So if their square footage is worth that much, how much am I worth?

This is about real views, not Instagram views. A post is gone in a scroll. A wall stays. It is about making space in someone’s memory, not their phone.

The long version is in the manifesto.
